Neglected reef tanks can be overwhelmed with hair algae. It is a long process to remove all of the live rock and coral to scrub off the hair algae which is only half the battle. The other half of the process is removing the hair algae’s food source, high levels of phosphates and nitrates. Continuous water changes using RO/DI (reverse osmosis/deionization) saltwater, along with the correct nitrate and phosphate removing media, will end the growth of the unwanted hair algae.

Since the mid 1990’s, many tropical fish hobbyist have converted their freshwater aquaria to a saltwater system because of new fish keeping techniques and the growing industry of aquarium service professionals.
